SINOPSIS :
This novel tells story about Daisy Jones and The Six of a
fictional 70’s rock band on the rise to stardom. It was told about the
band, family members of the band, people who worked with the band, wrote about
the band in magazines, observers, etc. Author makes the story is presented in a
documentary style, including background interviews with the band and the whole
wild world of the 1970s rock stars.
Daisy Jones is the 1960’s girl was born into the glamorous Hollywood
life. But her childhood leaves her empty inside and she turns to drugs, alcohol
and sex. With her beautiful and vocally
talented, she got a recording contract with Runner Records as a singer. But she was not satisfied with the contract, she wants to be a songwriter and sing her own songs.
She meets songwriter and lead singer of The Six, Billy Dunne; they
are like fire and ice. Billy is stubborn and wants to create music in his own
way, and makes other people in band suffer. Billy married with Camilla; the
person that always knew what she wanted. She put all her faith and trust on
Billy to be a better person. She was very calm and joy character to read about.
Through this novel; Warren, Pete, and Eddie also in the band but
play the most minimal story. Karen, who plays keyboard and Graham, is Billy’s
brother who’s also in the band. Both start dating and loves grow between Karen
and Graham. They love each other but have different point of view on what the
ideal future is. We can read their own story beside story about Billy and Daisy’s.
There are so much chemistry and drama between each of them. All
concerts become sold out. They are all together responsible or the rise and
eventually fall of the band.
While the story is presented in a documentary style,
including background interviews with the band, this is a fictional story that
captures the essence of creativity in the erratic, wild world of the 1970s
Hollywood industry.
Reviews :
I enjoyed most of the characters especially with Karen
and Graham and their silence relationship. Author was portray Daisy as a wild
woman every girls want to be, the
most beautiful and talented woman in the world. This repeated so many times until I found
it jerk. She has no really struggles other than her drug and alcohol addiction.
But I still enjoy Daisy’s spoiled-brat-bitch character because she is one of
the main characters in this book.
The Six begin as a small band with two brothers; Billy
and Graham Dunne. Story begins with Billy fall to the rock star life stereotype
of drug and addiction. He stepped up, joined rehab and dropped everything for
the person he loves the most. I also love Camilla and her character. She never
expecting perfect marriage with Billy but her strength makes Billy
choose her again and again.
I love that each of
these women went a different way with their lives, and they didn’t need to
conform to what is ‘normal’ to be happy. They (Daisy, Karen, and Camila) all showed immense strength
in their own ways and I thought each was her own version of badass lady by the
end of the story. There is so many drama
surrounding Daisy and The Six. Every members (Eddie, Warren, Pete, Rod) tells different sides of the
stories, and since they are being interviewed after many years passed by, it difficult
for them to remember the detail about every band member, or, overall, everyone
and not an individual in particular. Sound like this book based on real
story, huh?
This novel written in interview format and I found it
unique. It feels like this was an actual documentary about 70’s Hollywood rock
star in Netflix series. The author of the book in this book interviews
the members and asked them to chronologically tell their side of their story
from start to finish. I felt it was so real and that I desperately wanted to
hear their music; in fact I questioned myself this was a real band/story or
fiction?
It wasn’t wow for me so 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐stars from me but I really enjoyed this and can’t wait to read more
books by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This book feels so real!!!
“You have to have one person in your life that you know
would never do anything to steer you wrong. They may disagree with you. They
could even break your heart, from time to time. But you have to have one
person, at least, who you know will always tell you the truth.” -
